International Experts Gathered at Workshop on Digital Data Standards hosted by the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry
The newly established Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC), led by Prof. Dr. Peter Seeberger, is an important strategic partner for NFDI4Chem. On 3 and 4 April, the CTC hosted the DigSustain2: Workshop on Digital Data Standards Sustainability in the Chemical Sciences in Delitzsch to showcase the CTC’s activities in developing dedicated sites in Delitzsch and Merseburg and to bring together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss standardisation challenges and possible solutions. The meeting was chaired by Leah McEwen (IUPAC) and co-organised by members of the Beilstein Institute, CODATA, the InChI Trust and NFDI4Chem.
Turning strategies into guidelines
Over 50 experts in digital standards development from all over the world, including the USA, Japan and New Zealand, attended to discuss strategies for adoption and promotion of chemistry standards in FAIR data exchange. The aim of the workshop was to turn these strategies into guidelines, best practices and concrete solutions. The integration of standards into FAIR data workflows will ultimately improve interoperability across chemical sciences.
A particular highlight was the evening lecture by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Sabel on the frightening development of fake science and fake journals, highlighting the need for more reliable standardisation in the chemical sciences.

With Leah McEwen, Wendy Patterson, Carsten Kettner and three Task Area leads (Oliver Koepler, Johannes Liermann, Steffen Neumann), the NFDI4Chem family was well represented. We were delighted to have such a great opportunity for international networking and coalition building with a wide range of interesting stakeholders.
